Madison Land Conservation Trust’s Summer Hill Preserve was purchased in 2011 and contains a large tract of woodland. The Preserve is near the Hammonasset River and contributes to the protection of this important watershed. Woodlands like these are essential wildlife habitat and offer a home for numerous woodland bird species.
The Summer Hill trails connect to the Regional Water Authority's (RWA) Lake Hammonassett creating a large network of trails. Entering any RWA property, including Lake Hammanassett, requires a permit which can be acquired through the RWA recreation website.
From the Route 80 circle, take the exit onto Route 80 towards Killingworth. In about a mile, turn north onto Summer Hill Road. The trailhead and parking area will be on the right. The trail is located at 510 Summer Hill Rd, Madison, CT. Parking is available in a dirt lot on Summer Hill Road.
