Burr Pond State Park offers trails that wrap around Burr Pond with scenic views of the water. There is a boat launch available at the northernmost point of the park on Murr Mountain Road, past the entrance to the park. There is also canoe rentals on-site.
Visitors are allowed to swim in the designated areas, be sure to check the water quality before swimming! Picnicking areas are also open for use to have a sit-down and lunch in the park. As an added bonus, learn about the park's history with the first-ever condensed milk factory, which unfortunately burned down in 1877.
Gail Borden, discoverer of the process of milk preservation by evaporation and condensation, built the world's first condensed milk factory here, in 1857. The new milk product proved to be of great value, particularly to the Union Army during the Civil War. Fire destroyed the mill in 1877.
