The Darling homestead is 160 acres of rolling meadow with surrounding woodlands. The trail includes numerous stone wall crossings and a bridge crossing over the West River.
The Bishop Estate East/Darling House is located just south of Lake Dawson (a Regional Water Authority Property) and just west of the West Rock Ridge State Park on the eastern border of Woodbridge. The trail also connects to a hike along the West Rock Ridge and then to the Regicides Trail (a CT Forest and Parks Blue Blazed Trail).
The Red Trail, also called the Southern Loop, is an 1 mile easy hike with minor slopes.
The trail that ascends to West Rock Ridge State Park is just over a half mile long with a steady incline that is steeper towards the top. It branches off the Southern Loop Trail (Red Trail) through Regional Water Authority land (no permit required here).
The main entrance to the trails is from Route 69. There is a gravel parking lot for 10 cars adjacent to the Darling House located at 1907 Litchfield Turnpike (Route 69). There is also some street parking along Route 69.
