Description

Wallingford's Quinnipiac River Linear Trail offers more than 2 miles of scenic serenity, connecting downtown Wallingford to Yalesville. Paved and relatively flat, the 2.3 miles long main trail passes through wooded landscape, with wildflowers in spring and blackberry bushes in summer. The trail also offers views of woodpeckers, hawks, ducks, rabbits, squirrels, deer and turtles. The kiosks at either trail end display the trail's history and features. The trail crosses the river at two points, and passes under the Wilbur Cross Parkway. It is used all year round by walkers, runners, bikers and skaters of all ages.

The labyrinth near the southern entrance offers a circular walking pattern for meditation and reflection. Further down the trail is one of Connecticut's largest Red Oaks. Informative signage and multiple benches along the trail invite you to linger. A Little Free Library at the Community Lake trail entrance, as well as the Community Lake Park with a covered pavilion (for rent), playscape, tennis, basketball and sand volleyball courts and a baseball field, are nearby.

Three short side trails (packed dirt) branch off from the paved main trail: Bicentennial, Tooyupahs (Turtle), and Americorps NCCC.

The entire main trail is easily wheelchair accessible, paved all the way through, 12 feet wide and mostly flat, although there are slight slopes at both bridge crossings and at the under-path. The side trails are mulch and dirt and not wheelchair accessible.
