Platt Park Naugatuck River Greenway

Waterbury's first section of the Naugatuck River Greenway Trail is a 2-mile, paved multi-use trail providing a safe pedestrian and bicycle route between Bristol Street near the City's border with Naugatuck, and Eagle Street.

Description

The trail passes through a new city park, Platt Park, that includes picnic areas, a kayak launch, bathrooms, a nature trail, and amphitheater. Access to kayak launch and nature trail is by staircase and gravel path.  

This trail segment is part of the larger Naugatuck River Greenway Trail that will one day connect 11 communities along the Naugatuck River from Torrington to Derby. Waterbury is currently designing and has funding to construct the next section that will bring the trail to West Main Street and into downtown.  Information about the Naugatuck River Greenway can be found on the Naugatuck River Greenway website.

Rules

  • Open dawn to dusk.
  • Motorized vehicles not allowed (except wheelchairs).
  • Alcohol is prohibited.
  • No overnight parking.
  • Pets must be leashed, remove pet waste.
  • Respect trail environment, wildlife & plants.
  • Stay on trail, respect private property.
  • Maintain safe speed.
  • Keep right on trail, pass on left.
  • Always provide audible warning when passing.
  • Helmets required for wheeled users under 15 and is recommended for all others.
  • Use caution at street crossing and intersections.
  • For non-emergency/trail condition concerns, call 311.
  • In an emergency, call 911.

Parking and amenities are available at Platt Park, located on South Main Street near the intersection of Platts Mill Road, approximately 1/3 mile north of Exit 29 off of Route 8.
