Description

The Naugatuck State Forest Quillinan Reservoir Block is a working forest, managed for the sustainable growth and harvest of sawlogs and firewood, wildlife habitat, and recreation. It was acquired in 2001 from Birmingham Utilities, Inc., a water company. It contains the 16-acre Quillinan Reservoir and several streams, including Beaver Brook and Moulthrap Brook.

The woods roads along the western side of the property have rolling terrain. The Purple Trail and White Trail cover the eastern section of the property and gently follow the contours of the terrain. Shorter trails that run west to east are moderately steep.

For those looking for a longer hike, the White Trail connects to trails in the Ansonia Nature Center (no mountain biking on Nature Center trails) to the south, and indirectly via Rimmon Road to the Regional Water Authority's Pine Hill Trails (permit required).
