The 77-acre Mortimer Wright Preserve was purchased by the Town of Groton in 1989.
The southern entrance is located at 360 Groton Long Point Road (Route 215) and offers a wide, flat trail suitable for an easy hike. Trails end at privately-owned parcels. The trail that branches to the left, leads through a rugged area on top of the moraine and eventually into The Merritt Family Forest.
The Mortimer Wright Preserve is part of the X-Town Trail, a six-mile trail that connects Bluff Point State Park to Town's End Preserve. It borders other town-owned land and connects trails in Haley Farm State Park to those in The Merritt Family Forest, owned by the Groton Open Space Association (GOSA), via the X-Town Trail.
