Mianus River Park and State Park

Mianus River Park is a 391 acre nature reserve on the Greenwich/Stamford border in Connecticut. The park feature a stretch of the beautiful Mianus River, forest lands, vernal pools, glacial outcroppings, varied wildlife and miles of rolling trails.

Description

The Mianus River Park and State Park is an urban park containing over 12 miles of trails. The park includes a variety of paths and is well know for its flora and fauna. The Nature Trail (green) is 2.6 miles long with 13 points of interest marked with green letters. Visit the Nature Trail for a description of each point. The Yellow Trail is a 4.5 mile loop covering most of the park. Many smaller trails intersect and connect.  

Mianus River Park spans two municipalities and consists of three contiguous properties:

  • Mianus River and Natural Park, 110 acres, owned by the Town of Greenwich
  • Mianus River Park, 187 acres, owned by the City of Stamford
  • Mianus River State Park, also known as Treetops, 94 acres, owned by the State of Connecticut

The park is open from sunrise to sunset. 

Parking is extremely limited. Only park in designated parking spots. 

Park Rules

  • Stay on existing trails, follow "leave no trace" principles
  • Avoid the river's edge, fenced areas, and private property
  • Protect the river by using designated access points only
  • Leash dogs at all times, pick-up dog waste, and carry out with you

PROHIBITED: camping, fires. hunting, motorized vehicles, removing plant materials

Bicyclists
  • Alert hikers when approaching and slow down when passing
  • Avoid biking when trails are wet, keep off fragile river-edge trails

PROHIBITED: biking in Greenwich side of park

Fishing

Mianus River Park has an accessible fishing platform that can be reached from the parking area.

Fish only with valid license, comply with all posted catch and release laws, follow Connecticut fishing rules.

Trailhead Information

Parking is very limited. Park only in marked spaces as police will ticket and tow illegally parked vehicles in the park and on nearby streets.

There are two parking areas - one in Stamford and one in Greenwich.  

The Stamford parking area is at 71 Merriebrook Lane. From the junction of Route 15 (Merritt Parkway, Exit 33), proceed to Westover Road. After approximately 2 miles, turn right onto Merribrook Lane. In approximately 0.2 miles, find small parking areas on either side of the road.

The Greenwich parking area is at 450 Cognewaugh Road, Greenwich.

From the east, take exit 33 off Route 15 (Merritt Parkway). Continue on to Den Road for 0.2 miles. Turn left on Bengall Road for 0.2 miles and then right onto Riverbank Road for 0.3 miles. Trun left onto June Road for 0.2 miles and then left onto Guinea Road for 1.1 miles. Turn left onto Stanwich Road for 0.5 miles. The parking area is on the left. 

From the west, take exit 31 off Route 15 (Merritt Parkway). Turn left onto North Street for 1.4 miles. Turn left to Dingletown Road for 1.3 Miles. Turn left onto Stanwich Road for 0.8 miles. The parking lot will be on the left.
