Whetten Woods (owned by the Town of Mansfield) and Nate and Theora Whetten Woods (owned by Joshua's Trust) offers scenic trails through woodlands and wetlands in the heart of Downtown Storrs.

Description

Trails managed both by the Town of Mansfield and Joshua's Trust cross over streams and through a diverse stand of beech, oak, maple, ash and birch trees. Two groves of hemlocks are home to barred owls. Historic stonewalls emphasize the property's agricultural past

  • Mountain biking and swimming are not permitted.
  • Keep pets on a leash and clean up after them.
  • Respect private property rights.
  • Stay on the trails. Pack out what you pack in.
  • Consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
  • Do not light fires.
  • Hunting is prohibited.
  • Riding horses is prohibited.
  • Motorized vehicles are prohibited.
  • Removal of any plants is prohibited.

Trail Access

Access from Downtown Storrs from the trail head behind the condominiums off Sherwood Street.  Please note that there is no parking on Sherwood Street but free two hour parking is available in the Downtown Storrs Parking garage. Learn more about parking on Downtown Storrs website.

Access the portion owned by Joshua's Trust, from the two-car parking lot Hanks Hill Road (from the Downtown Storrs head south Route 195 for approximately 0.5 miles. Turn left on to Hanks Hill Road. Parking lot is on the left approximately 0.5 miles from the turnoff).
