Description

In the northeast corner of the Town Forest is a lovely waterfall known as Sheep Falls. Mr. Charles Morgan, a miller, owned property off Nod Hill and had a large herd of sheep. It is presumed that the falls were actually used as a place for washing sheep and that they were named to commemorate the activity.

Located in the northwestern section of the park is a large overhanging rock that sheltered first the Indians and later Colonial settlers. Although most of the park supports deciduous hardwoods, there are two small hemlock groves in the center of the park. These two areas provide a pleasing contrast to the deciduous woods.

A bubbling stream known as Barrett's Brook flows in a southwesterly direction through the forest from Sheep Falls to Branch Brook Road. The Orange Trail follows the stream corridor crossing Barrett's Brook in several places. It is one of the most attractive of the Towns' trails in all seasons of the year. The Blue Trail loops around the entire park. The Red Trail is a trail designed by and for mountain bikers. The two White Trails are shortcuts to shorten the Blue Loop. Two camping sites are located on the Yellow Trail.

Other Information

There are two camping sites in the park. Camping is authorized by permit only. Contact the Wilton Department of Environmental Affairs for information on obtaining a permit. There are no facilities on site.

Mountain biking is prevalent in the Town Forest. The Red Trail is a mountain biking trail. Mountain bikers must yield to all other park users. Mountain bikers must stay on existing trails. Do not create or braid trails. Mountain bikers should not ride when the trails are wet or muddy. Electric bikes are strictly prohibited.
