The Torrey Preserve property, named after the Torrey family who owned it for almost 74 years, begins at the Nipmuck Trail blazed in blue. The white-blazed trail on the right will lead to a working agricultural field.
Further up on the right, the trail also leads to glacial boulders resulting from the torrent of melt water during the last ice age. These boulders can be found by following the stone wall around the field or by taking a steeper walk up the trail on the right. The path back toward the Nipmuck Trail, will lead through a mixed wood forest. From this point, the hike can be continued on the Nipmuck Trail or can be completed by turning left back to the trail head.

From the UConn Campus intersection of Route 195 and Horsebarn Hill Road, turn onto Horsebarn Hill Road. Quickly bear right onto Gurleyville Road. Travel east on Gurleyville Road for 1 mile. Park in the dirt parking area on the left, just before you cross the Fenton River.
