Access to the preserve is from the trailhead on Sims Road, which has been designated a Scenic Road. The Blue Trail ascends steeply from Sims Road eastward to a relatively flat hilltop. From there, one can access the red loop trail, which allows for exploration farther east.

Peg and Gus Carlson had a shared vision of partnering with East Haddam Land Trust to protect this acreage. Unfortunately, Gus passed away before they could do so; however, Peg did not give up on the vision and sold this 12.5 acre parcel to EHLT at a bargain price. The property is very special in that it is dotted with boulders left from ancient glaciers. A small intermittent stream feeds into Succor Brook, which takes a winding path through wetlands north and south of Daniels Road. The property’s name, a combination of the first names of Peg and Gus Carlson, is a tribute to their vision, and their hope that future generations would continue to enjoy this land by horseback riding on its trails, finding wildflowers, listening to the babbling of its small stream and marveling at the beauty of the preserve’s geology.
Turn east onto Mount Parnassus Road (between the Shagbark hardware store and the Lions Club skating pond. Take a left onto Bogel Road. Stay left onto the unpaved Sims Road. Park on the side of the dirt road near the sign for Pegus’s Path.
