The Farmington River Trail (FRT) is a 17 mile trail with 13 miles of multi-use off road trail and 4 miles on road. The southern end joins the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail (FCHT) at Red Oak Hill Road in Farmington and the northern end joins the FCHT at Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. By adding a section of the FCHT, a 28-mile loop trail can be traveled. The 6 miles that mostly follow the Farmington River (designated as a National Wild and Scenic River) is considered the most scenic section. All paved surfaces are asphalt.
The 1.2 miles of trail between Stratton Brook Road and Bushy Hill Road (mostly in Stratton Brook State Park) is a mix of dirt and stone dust. Food and some services are available at various towns along the route, though they might not be visible from the trail.
There are multiple parking areas are located along the Farmington River Trail. See the interactive Connecticut Trail Finder map or the Farmington Valley Trails Council website for additional information.
