Description

The 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm is an 120 acre non-profit farm in Bloomfield the provides a wide variety of agricultural education to the region. 

Other Information

Trails

  • Orchard Loop (Red, 0.4 mi): a walk through former and new orchards with a stunning views of the Connecticut River Valley and the east side of Talcott Mountain. 
  • Mushroom Trail (Yellow, 0.2 mi): explore the quiet northern side of the farm, starting either from the orange trail. Pass by wetlands and hayfields, and the mushroom farm overlook. 
  • Farm Trail (Orange, 0.9 mi): this trail connects the Orchard loop to the heart of the farm, through meadows, grasslands, and a brook.
  • Bog Trail (Purple, 0.2 mi): a family-friendly trail through the wetlands on the "board-walk."
  • Garden Loop (Green, 0.4 mi): this trail enters the herb and lavender gardens, and passes by the Foodshare Garden, elderberry patch, and livestock pasture. Stop by the animal barn and say hello on the way to the Children's Garden before looping back.
  • Blueberry Loop (Blue, 0.2 mi): head past the old red storage barn to one of the farm's larger growing spaces. Turn west towards the blueberries (open for picking in July) and loop back by the Auer Community Garden and raspberry patch.
  • The Connector (0.2 mi): A connector trail leaves the northwest corner of the Blueberry Loop and connects to Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) property and trails, including the blue-blazed Metacomet Trail.

Rules

  • Auerfarm is open from 7am to 7pm in the summer (April-October) and 8am to 4pm in the winter (November-March).
  • Please do not feed any animals you may encounter at Auerfarm.
  • Please do not touch the fences.
  • Dog and animal waste MUST be bagged during walks.
  • When walking your pet on property please refrain from walking off the paths and into the hay fields.

Trailhead Information

From I-91

Take exit 35B (Bloomfield/Route 218 West) and turn left onto Route 218. Follow Route 218 through Bloomfield, approximately 5 miles to Route 185 (Simsbury Road). Turn right onto Route 185 and travel for one mile to Auer Farm Road on the left. Follow Auer Farm Road for 0.2 miles, and the park is on the left. Parking is near the white barn.
